I like Norwich Cathedral, despite the fact that these days it seems to be more of a money-making exercise than a building to cater for the city’s spiritual needs. I like the way the light filters through the stained glass windows, illuminating the vast interior; I like the little nooks and crannies, and the assortment of small chapels; I like the roof bosses in the cloisters, the carved scenes from the bible and the foliate heads; I like the peregrines nesting in the spire, and watching them as they hunt for food on a summer evening, filling the sky with menace; but most of all, I like just mooching around the place, breathing in the tranquillity, letting time be suspended like a fly in amber.
